Head of Fetal Medicine at Yoda Fetal Medicine & Genomics, brings over 12 years of expertise in advanced fetal care. A graduate of Madras Medical College, she earned recognition for her research and further specialized with a fellowship in Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasound and a postdoctoral fellowship in Fetal Medicine at Mediscan Systems, Chennai. Certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation (UK) and trained in fetoscopy, Dr. Amitha specializes in fetal therapy, anomaly detection, and high-risk pregnancies. Her compassionate approach ensures that both mother and baby receive the best care throughout their journey.

  • No, you don’t need an empty stomach for pregnancy scans.

  • A full bladder is required only for gynecological scans in virgins and is not required for any of the pregnancy scans or for gyneacology scans otherwise.

  • The duration depends on the baby’s position and the type of scan. Detailed scans like Nuchal Translucency (NT) and anomaly scans may take longer due to their comprehensive nature. You may have to wait or visit for repeat examinations if the fetus is not in suitable position.

    • Biochemistry blood reports: 5-7 days
    • FISH/QF-PCR reports: 5-7 days
    • Karyotype reports: approx 4 weeks

  • These procedures feel similar to a routine needle prick.

  • No, ultrasounds, including transvaginal scans, are safe during pregnancy.

  • Please bring:

    • Previous scan reports and current pregnancy investigations
    • Reports from past pregnancies with a significant history
    • Relevant medical/surgical history or medications
    • Family member reports if there’s a history of genetic conditions

  • No, the mode of delivery depends on factors like fetal growth, fluid levels, blood flow, previous surgeries, and maternal health conditions (e.g., diabetes or hypertension). Your obstetrician will decide closer to delivery.

  • Qualified obstetricians and radiologists specializing in fetal medicine perform the scans. Fellows in fetal medicine may assist with initial scanning, with final evaluations completed by senior specialists.
